NYSDEC Requirement for sampling PFAS & 1,4 Dioxane

by Catherine Weber
firefightersIn February 2019, the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation (NYSDEC) issued a memorandum outlining their initiative to evaluate environmental remediation sites for certain emerging contaminants. As part of this effort NYSDEC has contacted site owners requiring them to investigate the presence of Per-and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS)
and 1,4- Dioxane in all environmental media including; soil, groundwater, surface water, sediment and in certain instances animals and biota.  In addition, soil imported to a site for use in a soil cap, soil cover, or as backfill must be sampled for 1,4-dioxane and PFAS contamination in general conformance with DER-10.

Additionally, NYSDEC has mandated that sampling and analysis of these compounds be required under a number of different scenarios.  Alpha has considerable experience with these analyses and our turnaround times, courier service and customer service will exceed your expectations. We maintain NYDOH certification and we are able to analyze and report both PFAS and 1,4-dioxane in complete accordance with NYSDEC requirements.
